We understand the unique challenges that military families face, which is why we have implemented various initiatives to show our support and appreciation. Here are some ways we support military families:

Purple Up Club: Our Purple Up Club is a group that brings together both military-affiliated and non-military-affiliated students. Meeting once a month, members of the club collaborate to plan events and activities aimed at fostering a sense of community and support. From organizing our annual Veterans Day and Purple Up event to brainstorming ideas for strengthening connections within our school, the Purple Up Club plays a vital role in promoting unity and understanding among our students.

Purple Up Event: In April, as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child, our school comes together for our annual Purple Up event. This vibrant occasion is open to the entire Cherry Run Elementary School community and features a plethora of activities and entertainment. From temporary tattoos to cake walks, obstacle courses, rock decorating, and enjoying delicious pizza, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The Purple Up event serves as a fun-filled way to show our appreciation for military families while strengthening bonds within our school community.

Veterans Day Event: Each year, we host a heartfelt Veterans Day event to honor the brave men and women who have served in the military. Families are invited to join us in the morning before school starts for a warm gathering complete with coffee, pastries, and a touching slideshow featuring photos from our military community. Additionally, we often have the privilege of hosting special performances, such as the Air Force band, to further commemorate this significant day.

Supporting Transitions for Military Families

To help make your transition easier, the Department of Defense provides School Liaison Officers who serve as the primary point of contact for PreK – 12th grade school-related matters. School Liaison Officers offer an array of services and resources to support students, parents, installation leadership, schools, and the surrounding community. They inform parents about local schools, graduation requirements, afterschool programs, homeschooling and much more.
