Strong Academics

At Cherry Run Elementary School we’re proud of our students’ and teachers’ hard work in maintaining high academic standards and closing achievement gaps across student groups. In the school year 2023-24, we earned our all-time highest SOL scores for Language Arts (96%) and math (92%)!

Cozy Community

Cherry Run Elementary is a small neighborhood school with a close-knit community. This helps us build strong school spirit and help make sure every child is seen, welcomed, and heard! 

Purple Star School

Cherry Run Elementary School is a proud Purple Star School, which means we’ve been recognized for our commitment to supporting our military-connected students and their families through welcome programs, events, staff training, and more!

Strong Family-School Partnerships

Cherry Run Elementary School is grateful for our very active PTA! They help support more than 10 clubs offered during the fall and spring seasons, multiple student-focused events (Fall Festival, Bingo, Spelling Bee, Spring Fling), provide significant financial aid to the school (for technology, library books, field trips), organize assemblies, support teachers with ‘wish list’ items, and volunteer on a daily basis in the classrooms.

Modern Learning Spaces

Cherry Run Elementary School was recently renovated with new and updated classrooms and small group learning spaces. We also have technology upgrades throughout the school. Our hardworking custodial staff ensures our school is clean, safe, and welcoming for every student and staff member!

Student Leadership Opportunities

At Cherry Run Elementary School, we have many opportunities for students to get involved and develop their leadership skills! This includes our Student Council Association, Green Team, news crew, patrols, Purple Up Team, Student Ambassadors, and more!

Dedicated Teachers

Our caring teachers make personal connections to help each child discover their strengths and interests while cultivating a love for learning and personal growth. Our teachers have been repeatedly recognized by FCPS for their excellence, and we’re grateful to have them! 

Celebrating Diversity

We want each of our families to feel connected and engaged! We host an International Night to celebrate our community’s diversity and cultural traditions. We also have numerous opportunities for our families to share their input and feedback. 

Inclusive Learning Environments

We focus on inclusion for all students. 100% of our general education students receiving special education services receive inclusion instruction throughout their academic day.

Nature-Based Opportunities

We believe that nature provides many important learning and wellness opportunities for our students. We recently completed two beautiful outdoor projects: our outdoor classroom (named the “Nature Nook” by our students!) and our science learning garden.
