Student Testing

Students at Cherry Run are assessed in many areas throughout the year. Parents will receive a notification letter about the testing their child will have as well as the results of each test.

Some of the Virginia and Fairfax County  assessments that our students take are:

  • iReady Universal Screener for math and reading for K-6 students
  • Grades 3-6 Standards of Learning (SOL) tests and eCART tests
  • Kindergarten Math Reasoning Assessments
  • Grades 1-2 Math Reasoning Assessments
  • Grades K-6 Developmental Reading Assessment, 2nd Edition
  • WIDA for ESOL students
  • Naglieri for grade 1 students
  • CogAT for grade 2 students

Our school testing coordinator is Jeannie Waters. Please contact Mrs. Waters with questions about your child's testing program or test results.

Standards of Learning

The Standards of Learning (SOL) for Virginia Public Schools establish minimum expectations for what students should know and be able to do at the end of each grade or course in English, mathematics, science, history/social science, technology, the fine arts, foreign language, health/physical education and driver education.

eCART/ Horizon

FCPS eCART (Electronic Curriculum Assessment Resource Tool) provides teachers and school administrators access to web-based, FCPS-approved curriculum, assessments, tools, and resources that support K-12 teaching and learning.

Students are given at least 1 district level assessment through eCART each year. There is about a 4 week window that schools may give their assessments. Students and parents are able to view the results for 3 weeks after the window closes.

Universal Screener

Universal screening in reading and math is providing FCPS with information about strengths and needs in students’ foundational skills, or the building blocks for reading and math success. Gaps in foundational skills are the root of many later learning difficulties; early detection and intervention in these gaps can help students reach their potential.

To learn more about the Universal Screener, please visit the information page on the FCPS website.
